New - Upcoming Events for 2012!!

Mark your calendars! Beth Moore is coming to Knoxville and ISBC Women's Ministry will be there! We will be making a group purchase of tickets for Friday August 10th from 7-930pm and Saturday August 11th from 8am-1230pm. If you are interested in being a part of this bible study LIVE with Beth Moore please contact Jeni Morelock at 423-817-1753 or email at jenimorelock@hotmail.com no later than Sunday December 18th.

In 2012 ISBC Women's Ministry is going to be working closely with the newly revived ISBC Men's Ministry to host some "family events".

The first of these will be the "Daddy Daughter Dinner". This will be on Saturday February 18th at 630pm. Since our men so graciously serve the ladies at our annual Holiday Dinner, it will be our turn to return the favor and serve our men and daughters! The second of our family events will be a "Mother Son Date Night". This will be on Friday March 23rd. We will need to have a planning session after the first of the year to work out the details.

Ladies we need your help, your ideas and your "servant's hearts" to make all of these wonderful events happen. If you would like to be a part of the planning and/or volunteer, again please contact Jeni Morelock at 423-817-1753 or by email at jenimorelock@hotmail.com.

Holiday Dinner 2011

The annual ladies Holiday Dinner was on November 11th. It was a magical night, with the theme being Peace Be Still. There were so many people who made this event happen.

Tempe Brown, from Greenville, SC was an awesome speaker. Read her compelling story HERE. She shared some beautiful songs that she had written. "Pieces" was particularly moving, as it told her story.

The most exciting thing to report is that several ladies gave their heart to the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior! Many others prayed to give Christ more control of their lives.

We had 279 ladies in attendance, which is a new record. We are rejoicing as God used this event to draw us closer to Him. It was a grand kick-off to the Christmas season.

Recipe Exchange and Game Night

There's never a lack of something to do with our Women's Ministry. Our October event was a Recipe Exchange and Game Night. Since we are now one church with two locations, we decided to hold this event at our Glenwood campus.

Several of our ladies brought their favorite dish and a great attitude. Martha Rhoton and Jeni Morelock organized the food and beverages, and Michelle Cox and Christy Brister headed up the games.

We have a wonderful time when we get together for any event. Won't you consider joining us next time? You don't have to be a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church to attend, you just have to be lady. :)

Our next event is our annual Holiday Dinner. This event is the one we all look forward to as the hostess for each table decorates her table for the holidays. You will get lots of decorating ideas and enjoy a good meal and fellowship with other ladies. The tickets are on sale now for $20. You may purchase them during the week at either the Hill Rd. or Glenwood office, or on Sundays between services.

The speaker this year is Tempe Brown. I can't wait to hear what she has to say to us. Our theme is "Peace Be Still"

Fit for the King Race

Our 2nd annual Fit for the King races were held on September 18th this year. We had a 5K race, a 3K walk, a Kids Run, and a Kids Dash. More than 250 people participated in the races, which were held at Warrior's Path State Park! That's up from 70+ in 2010.

Fire Crew Barbeque did an amazing job with serving a delicious meal to all those who attended. We had between 450-475 who enjoyed the meal. We Run Events managed the 5K race and did an exceptional job. We had race results within minutes of completion of the race. You can see the race results on that website.

It was fun to see entire families participate. A good time was had by all.

Extreme Makeover

The Extreme Makeover Retreat was another extraordinary weekend, as we allowed God to make us over from the inside-out. He truly does love us, and we are beautiful to Him. Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." NIV

Lisa Dugger led several sessions on how to dress, how to choose the right colors to wear, and how to dress for our body type. We even made our own skin care products from food! We had a cleansing ceremony to indicate our willingness to allow the Lord to cleanse our hearts. After the ceremony, we wrote down everything that we wanted to release to God on a sheet of paper and burned it. Though our bonfire was only a flame, it still consumed our burdens and sins.

Two ladies were chosen to receive make-overs. A stylist at Belk, in Kingsport, helped them select outfits for the big reveal. Brandy from Attitude Salon did their make-up, hair color, and hair styles. See their before and after pictures below:

Extreme Makeover is the theme of our retreat this year. We will be exploring how to make-over ourselves from the inside out, and from the outside in, through Bible study and fun activities, such as learning which colors we should wear, how to make our own skin care products, and don't forget....the big REVEAL of our two makeover winners on Saturday night!

"Beautiful Me"
Mother/Daughter Brunch
Saturday, April 30th, 10:00 am is the time set for this girly-girl event. Doors will open at 9:15 to view the tables and decorations. For ages kindergarten-age 100+, all females will enjoy this brunch. Mothers, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, nieces, basically any female who is special in your life can be your guest.

We will be having an Easter Hat Contest, so decorate your hats and wear them to the brunch.

Since this event will be in the Christian Life Center, seating will be limited, so you'll have to hurry to get tickets to this one. Tickets go on sale Sunday, April 3rd. The cost is $10.00 per ticket.

Other activities in the works:

Women on Watauga - No, not the street, the LAKE! We are going to rent a pontoon boat or two and spend the afternoon on the lake. This will obviously be a summer event, so check back for D&;D (Date & Details)

Second Annual "Fit for the King" 5K Race/3K Walk - This totally awesome and fun, family event will be September 17th at Warrior's Path State Park. It will be open to the public, and hamburgers and hot dogs will be served after the race. D&D later.

These are the events that are currently being planned and solidified. We will be adding more events as the year progresses, so check back often, and share this blog with your friends.

Souper Supper and a Movie 2011

Our annual Souper Supper & Movie night is Monday, January 24th, at 6:00 pm. Bring a pot of soup or dessert, and a friend (or more), to the Student Activity Center to enjoy a night with girlfriends.

Our movie is "Love's Enduring Promise", starring Katherine Heigl, and January Jones. Last year, we watched "Love Comes Softly." In that movie, Marty (Katherine Heigl)became a widow. But, Clark (Dale Midkiff) suggested a platonic marriage of convenience to give her a place to live, and his child a new mother. As the story progressed, the two fell in love and got married. The saga continues with Marty and Clark with their daughter, Missie (January Jones), who devoted equally to teaching school and doing her fair share on the farm. When a handsome railroad heir (Mackenzie Astin) starts to woo her, Missie is nearly swept off of her feet. But then a mysterious stranger (Logan Bartholomew) with a troubled past shows up. Torn between two very different men, Missie learns what is truly important in this inspiring film.

Popcorn will be provided, so dress comfortably, and plan to have a fun evening!

First Annual "Fit for the King" 5K Run/3K Walk

Warriors Path State Park, was the site for our first annual "Fit for the King" 5K Run/3K Walk. The weather could not have been more perfect. The colors of fall were brilliant along the tranquil lake and October blue sky.

61 eager participants lined up at the starting line as family members and friends stood by to cheer them along.
It was a fast start, with Brandy Nothnagel and Wayne Strasser taking an early lead. Brandy won the race, not only as the first female, but the overall winner, with a time of 21:09. She was a blur as she passed by! Wayne took second place overall and first place male finisher. Congratulations to all of our participants!

Jamie Williams was our race director. She did a fantastic job of pulling the race together. Foot Rx and Rasnic Chiropractic sponsored the event with prizes and timing equipment. David Williams and Gary Hubble were the Master Chefs, who cooked for the 80 plus attendees.

Matt McClosky brought a thought provoking message about how to be "Fit for the King".

As you can tell by the video footage, a great time was had by all. We are looking ahead to bigger and better next year, as we open the race to the community.

We are very fortunate to have Joani Tabor as our special guest speaker/singer. Joani has traveled the world, speaking and singing for people about Jesus. The Rev. Billy Graham said, "The Lord has blessed you with a remarkable musical gift. I am so glad you are able to use it for His glory."

Her awards include, Female Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year (Gold Cross Award), Song of the Year, twice! She has done more than twenty-one recording and video projects. A Night at the Madagascar

Killing Time at Kil'n Time Fun

Tuesday night, we reserved space at the contemporary pottery studio, Kil'n Time, in Bristol. This was our second event there, our first being last year. It is one of our favorite Women's Ministry's Ladies Night Out events. We had time to catch up with each other, encourage one another in our efforts, and form a closer bond.

These events are important to developing our Women's Ministry program. It is crucial to set aside time
just to be together, to laugh, to have fun, always keeping our focus on who brought us together, and to whose purpose we are called, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Making friends with other Christian woman crosses age barriers. All ages were represented at this event. We love each other and have fun learning from each other. Every time we get together, our bond grows stronger. We are reaching out and loving on other folks, too.

Indian Springs Baptist Church has an active Women's Ministry. We attempt to get together at least every six weeks to do something fun. We have two major events during the year, our Ladies Retreat, and our annual Holiday Dinner. If you aren't involved in a Women's Ministry program, come and be involved in ours. We are growing in numbers, and in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ISBC Ladies Night Out at Kil'n Time Studio

Our next Ladies Night Out will be at Kil'n Time Contemporary Ceramic Studio, located at 818 State Street, in Bristol, VA. It will occur on Tuesday, July 27th.

This event was so much fun last year, that we decided to repeat it. Starting at 5:00 and ending at 8:00, supper will be included. Our Women's Ministry will cover the studio fee for you and one guest. You may bring your daughter, but please use discretion with the maturity and age of the child. The studio fee will cover one item per person. You pay for the pieces you choose to paint. If there is anything in particular you would like to have available, call the studio at 573-9950 and they will order it for you.

There will be two additional opportunities offered that night.

1. There will be a gem and mineral dealer that night from California. He will have them available for purchase from $10 to $40, if you are interested.

2. They will be offering a "Fused Glass" class. You can learn to make a coaster:

There is a fee for the Fused Class of $19 to make a coaster, or $25 to make a pendant or earrings, less your

studio fee of $6.00, which WM will pay for you.

Ladies Night Out Was Hopping

Ladies Night Out Karaoke and Games was only half-way successful. The reason being that we started with Karaoke and never got around to the games! HA!

OH MY... Indian Springs Baptist Church is well-known for the amazing amount of talent that God has placed there. Well, this blog post is a display of the ugly truth, the incredible amount of lack of talent that He has also placed in our church! HA!

Teronya Holmes was our gracious hostess. Her gorgeous home was the perfect location for our event. She even had a wardrobe room, where those who were brave, or had less than good sense, could dress up in lovely outfits for their karaoke numbers.

Let me tell you, our ladies know how to cook! The snacks were yummmmmy!

Karaoke and Games for Ladies Night Out

Start tuning up your vocal chords and get ready to compete in our Ladies Night Out Karaoke and Game Night. Friday night, June 18th, at 7:00 pm is our next Women's Ministry Event. Teronya Holmes has graciously volunteered, well okay I asked her, to host the evening.

Don't worry if you are bashful. There will be plenty of garb to hide behind, or better yet, bring your own costume for singing. You know, things like old bridesmaids' dresses, hats, scarves, jewelry, basically any kind of dress-up kinds of things. There will be prizes awarded for the following categories:

A Child of the King

Many years ago, but not so far away, lived a little girl. By today's standard, she would have been known as having ADD, or Attention Deficit Disorder, but back-in-the-day, she was called lively. It's peculiar to me why everyone has to have a label these days. I think that in many cases, no disorder exists, it's just kids being kids.

This child had a very hard time sitting still in church. She did everything imaginable, and unimaginable, to keep from wiggling right off that pew. She did everything from attempting to peel the nail polish off her mother's nails, to making cradles out of handkerchiefs. Her antics frequently warranted a stern look from the pulpit, or a pinch from her mother's fingers. On more than a few occasions, she was escorted out during the service to get a good talkin' to, or a swift strike to the seat of contrition. Poor little thing!

Though she absorbed bits and pieces of the sermon, this child remembered every word of every song she heard in church. Her voice joined others, as she sang each note with sweet abandon, though not always so perfectly. People didn't particularly enjoy her singing voice, especially as she got a little older. This didn't bother her, she still sang her heart out at every chance. She sang while her sister played the piano. She sang in the fields to the trees and flowers. The mules and ponies in the pasture were victims of many concerts. She even sang to the hay in the barn.

Her mother knew she loved to sing, but would encourage her to perform funny songs in funny ways, so as to mask her voice, and draw laughs from the audience. The daughter developed performing skills, but her voice still lacked the pretty tone she so desired.

In the little country church she attended, there was a gentleman who sang a song that drew her in. Many songs are beautiful, but only a few are anointed. This song was anointed!he chorus went something like this:

"I'm a child of the King, a child of the King.
His royal blood now flows through my veins.
My sins which were many were all washed away.
Praise God, praise God!
I'm a child of the King."

It was the lyrics of this song that made their way into the young girl's heart. It was these words that brought to life in her that SHE was a child of King Jesus! She pondered that realization in her heart over the next few years.

At age eighteen, the desire had only grown stronger to be able to sing beautifully. She began to pray, "Lord, if you will give me the voice to sing, I promise that I will use it to sing for you. I will never say no to anyone who asks me to sing."

The opportunity presented itself for her to sing solo. With butterflies in her stomach, and shaking like a leaf in the wind, she prayed, "Lord I gave my voice to you, now please let Holy Spirit sing through me. May you be glorified." She approached the microphone, cleared her voice, and just as she did as a child, sang her heart out. The people in the congregation were stunned, but none more than her parents. Somehow, this gawky daughter of theirs had changed into a young lady with a God-given ability to sing his praises.

If we could only realize that God knows the desires of our heart. When a desire aligns with God's Word, and it is one we have had since childhood, he will honor that desire. In fact, I believe he puts those desires in our hearts. We must first have that one-on-one relationship with His son, Jesus. We must realize that we are a child of the King, joint-heirs with Jesus. A child of the King isn't junk, because God doesn't create junk. Then we must pray and study his Word, all the while listening to His voice. Then, we have to knock on doors and see what opens for us.

That rowdy little girl became a woman who loves the Lord. She sang for most of her adult life, until voice damage occurred. I have been praying that God would heal her voice and allow her to sing for Him again. Will you join me in that prayer? I know it would mean so much to her to know you are praying.

I don't think she would mind if you knew her name. Her name is me, Pam Archer!

Extraordinary Women Conference Coming to Johnson City

The Extraordinary Women Conference is coming up at Freedom Hall April 30th -May 1st.

This year's speakers include Julia Clinton, Angela Thomas, Chonda Pierce, Sherri Rose Sheperd, and Lysa TerKeurst. Performing during the conference are Jeremy Camp, Charles Billingsley, Mark Harris, and Adie.

You can click on the banner above to get all the details, but the Early Bird registration special deadine is 4/16. The tickets are $59, if you register by the 16th. After the 16th, the price is $69, and if you wait until you get to door, the price increases to $89. There is a $10 discount for groups of 10 or more, plus you get one free registration with 10.

Since I am still recovering from surgery, I regret that I cannot head up this registration, but I did want to remind you about the conference.

Learn a Craft Nite

Friday, March 12th is Ladies' Night Out. We will be having a covered dish supper, and a learn a craft night.

It will be held in the CLC, beginning at 6:00 with the meal.

All the details aren't in yet, but what we have so far are :

Scrapbooking - bring your project and work together on making some pages for your scrapbook. WM has purchased some stickers and scrapbook papers. FIRST TIMERS..bring scissors and some scrapbook adhesive. These can be found at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. If you need other supplies, contact Dawn Gibson at 239-3758, or Cathy Davenport at 239-5087.

Creative Cake Decorating - with Martha Rhoton. Cupcakes and icing will be provided.

Flower Arranging - with Pam Archer. Bring a container. Flowers and supplies will be provided.

I am working on getting other crafts for that night too. If you know of anyone who teaches jewelry making, or another craft, who would be willing to teach it that night, contact me at 292-9418.

Ladies' Retreat, You Should Have Been There!

The Ladies' Retreat was a blast! Smoky Mtn. Christian Villiage turned out to be a perfect place for our special weekend. Several of the ladies commented how much they enjoyed getting to be together in a lodge. We were able to spend lots of time getting to know each other. We overate, laughed until we cried, and played games in our free time.

Our speaker was exactly who we needed, and she had the perfect message for us. It was all about learning to create margin in our lives, because it is in the margin that God speaks to us..when we are quiet and listening to his voice.

A big shout out to our very professional food preparation team, Paul and Sandy Vowell, and Larry Brammer. Talk about organized! Sandy even made a decorative, framed picture with the menus for each meal on it. The food was so delicious and there was plenty of it!

Thank you to Angie Dishner and Carol Jennings for leading us in worshipful music. Brandi Kisner and the ISBC Women's Ministry Performance Troupe entertained us with appropriate skits for each session.

Hard Hearted Pharoah

In our One Year Bible study, we have been reading in Exodus. God would give Moses and Aaron specific instructions regarding their plea to Pharoah to let the Israelites go. He told them what to say, what to do, and what would happen. God told them each time that Pharoah wouldn't do as he promised. Knowing in advance that Pharoah wasn't going to keep his word, they continued to follow God's instructions, appearing before Pharoah numerous times before he finally let the Israelites go.

I thought about this scenario. I know that Moses and Aaron trusted God, or they would not have been obedient to Him. Had I been Moses or Aaron I might have wondered why God put me through all of that, knowing full well that Pharoah was going to say no all of those times, prior to finally letting the people go. I might have allowed Satan to whisper in my ear that God was playing me for a fool. I might have questioned God as to why He wanted me to jump through proverbial hoops before Pharoah yielded.

Maybe God was testing Moses and Aaron's faith. Perhaps he was testing their obedience. I'm sure there are many lessons he wanted them to learn through that experience. Hard-hearted, and hard-headed Pharoah learned something, too. He learned who the one true God is, and who was in control..and it wasn't him!

It's hard to persevere when we don't see positive results, but there is always a reason for God doing things His way, in His timing. He simply calls us to obedience, not outcomes.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." - Proverbs 3: 5-6

Souper Supper A Success

Souper Supper Friday night was a blast! Thank you to those of you who brought all the gourmet soups and desserts. There were so many delectable and tempting choices, that I had to sample several.

Did you enjoy the movie? "Love Comes Softy" was a heartwarming story of loss and hope. It is the first in a series of movies based on the books by author Janette Oke. I highly recommend them for family viewing, too.

The Ladies' Retreat is SOLD OUT! Praise the Lord! What a fun weekend we are going to have. I have a feeling we are going to be talking about it for a long time after it is over and tucked away in our hearts.

Instant Gratification Not Always Satisfying

Jacob and Esau were twin brothers, who were born from Rebekah and Isaac. Genesis 25: 27-34 tells us that Esau was a skillful hunter and that Isaac loved Esau more, because he enjoyed eating the wild game that he brought home. Esau must have been somewhat of a redneck. :0) I wonder if he had deer heads hanging on his tent walls?

Rebekah loved Jacob best, because he was quiet and preferred to stay at home and cook. What mother wouldn't love that type of son!

One day, Esau came home after a day in the country. Jacob was cooking some stew. Esau said, 'Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!' (That is why he was also called Edom.)

Jacob replied, 'First sell me your birthright.'

'Look, I am about to die', Esau said. 'What good is the birthright to me?'

But Jacob said, 'Swear to me first.' So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.

Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left.

So Esau despised his birthright."

Esau was willing to give up all of his inheritance for a bowl of stew! All he cared about at that very moment, was physical satisfaction. I would guess that he got hungry again that day, wouldn't you? But, he had nothing more to give away, because he had already traded it all for that bowl of soup earlier in the day.

How many times do we forego our dreams and goals, and settle for less than God's best for us? How many marriages have broken up, because of a moment of instant gratification that developed from a lustful relationship with someone other than their spouse? Do we want bigger houses, more money in the bank, or other things so badly, that we are willing to step over anyone in our way to get them?

So many times, we don't think past our noses to the consequences of fulfilling our desires. God has so much for us, if we just wait patiently on the Lord. Let's not settle for good, when His best is worth waiting for.

Women's Ministry Is On the Move

As we work toward growing our ministry to women at Indian Springs Baptist Church, I would like your suggestions, requests, and insight into activities, outreach opportunities, or something that would be of interest to you. My desire is to include women of all ages, so thinking outside of the box is welcomed. Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me your suggestions.

Here are some upcoming activities for 2010:

Friday, January 22nd - Souper Supper & Movie - 6:00 pm in the Student Activity Center. Bring your favorite soup or dessert and dress comfy. Invite your friends, too. There will be plenty of food, and laughter.

Friday-Sunday, February 19th-21st - Ladies Retreat
The location is the gorgeous, Smoky Mountain Christian Village

Ronda Paulson will be our guest speaker.

32 ladies have already signed up. We can accommmodate 46, so reserve your spot as soon as you can. You don't want to miss this one! Laughing burns calories!

We are working on a calendar of activities for the entire year. As soon as we get all the dates set, I will get a brochure to you so you can mark your calendars.

Some of the things we are considering are returning to Kiln' Time Pottery. Everyone seemed to enjoy that, and it's a good opportunity to bring your daughter along.

A cooking class has been suggested, where a guest comes and teaches us how to make meals for an entire month! That would be interesting.

How do you feel about having a Spring Tea? Would you prefer to have more times to get together, say monthly, and forego the Tea this year? I need your thoughts on this asap.

Our speaker for the Holiday Dinner, November 19th, has been secured. I'll be sharing more about her in the next few months, but she is awesome!! Mark you calendars for that date for sure.

I would like to do a Bible study on the blog. Is there anything in particular that would be of help or interest to you?

Ladies, we need you in this ministry. We need your involvement. Our church has grown, and we need to create ways to meet each other and connect. The young women in our church need older, godly women, who have walked through what they are experiencing, to come alongside them, encourage them, and help grow them in their faith. Young women, the older women need to learn about you. We want to know about you. We need your energy and fresh ideas! There's a place for every woman in this ministry. Let's all get involved!

Who's Your Best Friend?

Do you have a best friend? When/where did you meet? How long have you been friends? Has she been there for you through good times and bad? Have you ever had a disagreement? How do you maintain your friendship?

A best friend is a treasure! To have someone that you can confide in, one who will stick with you through hard times and have a ready shoulder to cry on, is a special gift. A best friend is someone, who even if you go for long periods of time without talking or seeing each other, when you do have contact again, it's as if time stood still and nothing changed. You pick up where you left off, not having the need to become reacquainted.

Did you know that if you are a believer, that you are a friend of God?

"And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God." - James 2:23

I just love this! I am a friend of God! He calls me friend! Isn't that amazing? It's hard to believe that the creator of the universe is MY friend, but He says that he is.

"Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth; but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you." -John 15: 15-16

He tells us, in no uncertain terms, that if we honor Him and do as He commands, that he calls us friends. Imagine that! God is our friend. And do you know what else? Just as our best friend on earth, He will stick by us through thick and thin, too.

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." - Proverbs 18:24

When we are depressed, or anxious about something, he not only lends us a shoulder to cry on, but he tells us to give those things to him, and trust him to handle them, so we don't have to worry about a thing.

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." - I Peter 5: 7

So how do we come to the place where we feel close enough to God to share our deepest feelings? Well, how did you come to be such close friends with your best friend? By spending time together! You spent hours talking to each other, and sharing your hearts. That relationship took time to build, and requires time and effort to maintain. It's the same with our relationship to our Lord. We have take time to get to know him. We have to set aside time to spend with him, enjoy him, and learn his ways. We have to learn to listen to Him, so that when he speaks to us we will recognize his voice. We do this by spending time reading His word, the Bible.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - II Timothy 2: 15

The more time we spend with Him, the more we grow to love Him. The more we get to know him, the more time we want to spend with Him.

2009 was a year spent getting to know my saviour in a deeper way. I've known Jesus since I was eight years old, so I'm sure I have read all of the Bible, however last year was the first time I read it in an organized way. I did the One Year Bible Study plan, and it blessed me beyond words. When I finished the last page, I felt a feeling of accomplishment.

As I reflect back on the year, I have learned so much that I didn't know before. Reading God's word in context, as opposed to select scriptures here and there, gave me a whole new view of God and his character. I know without a shadow of a doubt that he is my friend!

I have started my second year of the study. It's only the third day and already I have learned something that I didn't catch last year. Each day spent with Him is a day of revelation and conviction. Every day I grow closer to my best friend.

Wouldn't you like to know Jesus as your best friend? Spend some time with him each day and your desire to know him better will increase. You will realize how much He truly loves you and cares for you.

Ladies Holiday Dinner a Success

Once again the ladies of ISBC outdid themselves with spectacular decorations and table settings. Talk about creative minds! Each table was unique, and all of them beautiful. You will want to view the slideshow over and over again. Maybe they will spark some ideas for entertaining this holiday season.

The Tennessee Smoky Mountain Christian Village Retreat Center will be the location for our annual Women's Ministry Ladies Retreat, February 19th-21st. This scenic and serene center is location in Pigeon Forge, just around the corner from Dollywood.

Ronda Vaught Paulson will be leading our sessions. Some of you may recall how marvelous she is from our Spring Tea this year. She is a master at sparking laughter, all the while touching the heart to seek that connection with Jesus Christ. The sessions include:

Session 1 - the importance of slowing down and listening to God

Session 2 - the importance of following God's lead

Session 3 - the importance of loving people

Session 4 - the importance of uniting as believers

Ronda has been a motivational speaker for ten years. She is the Head Cheerleading Coach at Milligan College. She has been married to Corrie for nearly 12 years. They have two children, Sophi, and Mac. They reside in Elizabethton, TN.

One of the reasons for choosing this location, is that all attendees get to stay in the same lodge. Both floors have large kitchens, great rooms, and gas fireplaces. Each floor has a washer and dryer. Lodge #5, pictured, sleeps 48.

Our sessions will be held in the Special Events Center, which can accommodate up to 90 people, has audio visual equipment, and a nice, catering kitchen.

Recreational activities include an indoor pool, hiking trails, and other outdoor sports. Shopping is very close by in Pigeon Forge.

We are now accepting registrations. Register before December 31st for $75.00. The fee includes two nights accommodations, dinner on Friday night, and three meals on Saturday, and an awesome speaker and music. After December 31st, the rate increases to $85.00.

Harpist to Perform at Holiday Dinner

I'm thrilled to announce that Martha Painter, from Harpstrings, is going to provide fine music for your pleasure, during dining at the Holiday Dinner. Listen to a preview of her music at Harpstrings. It will immediately put you in the Christmas spirit.

I have spoken with our speaker, Kay Dekalb Smith, and she is a pure delight. You are in for a real treat!

The annual Holiday Dinner continues to grow into an even more spectacular, must-attend, event. Everything is falling into place this year. Our table hostesses, under the direction of Martha Rhoton, are busy gathering everything to decorate their tables. Cyrena Fletcher and Christy Brister are all abuzz heading up the decorations committee.

Cathy Davenport designed a gorgeous ticket and program for us. Be sure to purchase your ticket soon. On the first day of ticket sales, we sold nearly half of the tickets! We have three more weeks to go, unless we sell out before then. Doris Pressley is overseeing ticket sales. You can purchase your ticket at the nursery hall entrance and in the foyer of the entrance to the sanctuary. They are on sale before and after Sunday services.

Betty White is making lovely name tags for all of the ladies, and Kathy Tilley is seeing to it that all the hostesses have table linens.

I get hungry just thinking about the food! Kudos to Pam Goforth and Doris Pressley for taking on that job. The menu promises to please every palette. The only downside is that one has to make a choice between Lemon Italian Creme Cake and Swiss Chocolate Cheesecake!

To be able to host this event in the sanctuary, a lot of grunt work has to take place. This involves getting a crew together to move the chairs and transport tables to and from the CLC. Set up and take down of tables and chairs is a major project. Ursula Ward is the fearless WARDen who volunteered to commandier this mammoth task!

Of course, there will be door prizes. Susie Toomey is always creative in the way these are presented, so prepare to have some fun with this part of the program. You might even win one!

Thanks in advance to Wayne Droke and Stan Bowman who will be laboring behind-the-scenes to assure all the food services and amplification needs go well.

I'm still working on getting men to volunteer to serve as table waiters. If you know of someone who would be willing to do this, please have them contact me. afcpam@mindspring.com.

So, you see. It takes a lot of people to have an event like this. It looks easy, but that's because our volunteers make it look that way. We are so blessed with talent at ISBC.

Plans are in full swing for our annual Holiday Dinner, on November 13th. Tickets will go on sale on Sunday, October 11th. If you do not attend ISBC, but would like to attend, please call Pam Archer at 292-9418, and I'll make sure you get a ticket.

The tickets are $20.00 each. Please consider sponsporing another lady to go, even if you can't.

Our speaker is Speaker/Singer/Comedienne Kay Dekalb Smith www.kaydekalbsmith.com. She has been described as the "Carol Burnette of Christian Entertainment." Her schedule is packed full, so we are very fortunate to have her as our guest.

Holiday Dinner 2009

Planning for the annual Ladies Holiday Dinner is in full swing. The dinner is the kick-off for the holidays, and is a highlight of the season for those who have attended in the past. For a look at last year's dinner, view the slideshow below.

Holiday Dinner 2009, will be on Friday night, November 13th, at 6:00.
The speaker for this year is Kay Dekalb Smith. She is a comedian and comes highly recommended.

As we plan and prepare, we need more volunteers to be table hostesses. Now, don't let that terminology scare you, because if you volunteer, you will have lots of help if you need it. Contact Martha Rhoton to let her know you will host a table. rhotonm@hotmail.com.

If you have already volunteered, thank you! We invite all hostesses (and potential) hostesses to a planning session on Tuesday, September 22, at 6:30 in the Student Assembly Center. Bring any dishes (a sample) that you are using or aren't using, table cloths, flatware, anything that you think another hostess might be able to use. Among us, we have a lot of resources.

Lots of volunteers are needed to decorate the hallways and platform areas. Donna Whittaker and Donna Walker are heading up that committee, but they need about 15-20 volunteers, and could use your suggestions and ideas. If you can help with decorating, come to the meeting on Sept. 22nd, at 6:30.

We will need door prizes. Can you supply something, or do you know a business who will donate, and that you will contact to pick that up? We need several of you.

Tickets will go on sale in October. Will you sale tickets a Sunday or two for us?
The price of tickets will be $20.00 per person. One hostess per table receives a free ticket.

Begin inviting your friends, family, and neighbors to this awesome event. Last year, one lady prayed to receive Christ into her heart, and many others said that the speaker was just who they needed at that appointed time. God really does use us, if we surrender ourselves to him. He will equip us for the task he has for us to do.

I just received a phone call from Jen O'Neill. She told me that her dad had received Christ and that he is home with our Lord. Praise God for this news! Many of us have been praying for Oscar, so this is an answer to our prayers.

She did say that she is taking her mother to the hospital and that she would probably have to have surgery. She is 86 years old. (My previous post was incorrect about the ages of her parents.) Please continue to pray for Jen and her family.

I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak His praises. ~ Psalm 34: 1

Jennifer O'Neill Update

Those of you who attended the Ladies Retreat in February remember Jennifer O'Neill. (Even if you didn't attend you will remember her from her Cover Girl model and movie star days) At the retreat, Jen poured her heart out to us through her riveting testimony. She told us of her parents love for each other, and that they have lived with her for many years. She also told us of her concern for their salvation.

Last Monday, August 17th, her dad, Oscar, passed away. He was 92 years old. Jennifer is heartbroken, but her assistant said that they are believing that her dad made the decision somewhere along the way to accept Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.

They have been going through some changes, including moving to another house, her dad's hospitalizations, and numerous other things. As the Holy Spirit prompts you, please remember Jen and her family in your prayers. Specifically, that God will use all of this heartache for His purpose.

Jen has a full speaking engagement schedule for the Fall. Pray for her as she grieves and fulfills these commitments. Our July Event was held at Kil'n Time Ceramics Studio, in Bristol, TN. Kil'n Time is a trendy studio, where you can be as creative as you want to be with the piece of pottery that you select to paint.

The studio has idea books, every color of paint imaginable, sponges, templates, stencils; virtually everything you need to paint a masterpiece. They offer various classes throughout the year, so check out their web site to get more information.

Approximately 35 women attended the event. We invited friends and family to enjoy an evening of painting and pizza. I enjoyed walking around the room and seeing all the cool ideas. You can see some of the pieces in the video above.

Everyone had a great time, and many have requested that we do it again. It was so much fun! We hope to see you there next time.
