Advice - Are you too "quick to speak"?

How often in life are we "quick to speak, slow to listen?" Maybe it's not you that comes to mind, maybe it's those times in life where the burden is heavy or you can't see the forest for the trees (so to speak).

As I read through scriptures, knowing that "iron sharpens iron" sometimes we find ourselves asking "is this the iron I need to be sharpened?" Proverbs 2:2 tells us "make your ear attentive to wisdom; incline your heart to understanding" verse 3 "for if you cry for discernment lift your voice for understanding" We are to seek wisdom as hidden treasure.

Let's face it, today the world gives wisdom, everyone has an opinion, advice and their own understanding. We can't do it on our own. Exodus 18:17-18 "the thing that you are doing is not good. You will surely wear out, both yourself and those people who are with you for the task is too heavy for you, you cannot do it alone. Now listen to me, I will give you counsel and God be with you. You will be the people's representative before God. Teach them the statutes and laws and make known to them the way in which they are to do".

As Christians, it's important that the advice we give isn't of ourselves - that it is of God showing His plan and showing His will based on His word. As representatives of God we must put our human self aside and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us as a vessel. When receiving advice, we must pray for discernment and seek His Truth first, not just an opinion. Don't get worn out seek first The Father.

My prayer for you today:

Heavenly Father, as we go through life facing challenges and decisions, help us to seek your will. Allow us to be vessels for You to work through. Father give us discernment on the advice we receive that we truly know its your will. Give us strength in all we do through your precious Son - Jesus. Amen.
