My father was a bass singer and sang
in quartets for many years. My sisters and I were taught to sing at a very
early age. Going to church and singing gospel songs was almost a daily
occurrence in my life.
My family attended Pleasant View
Baptist Church, and it was there in 1952—during a three-month-long revival—that
I, along with over 300 other people, accepted Christ into my heart. I was 13
years old. Soon after, I was baptized in the Holston River in Scott County,
Virginia.
Everyone in my family, including the
children, were expected to work hard. There was very little time for playing or
having fun. My memories as a child and young adult are of pulling weeds, mowing
yards, and because my father always planted a big garden, I spent hours hoeing.
By the time I was a teenager, I felt like a professional gardener.
After graduating from high school, I
began working for Inter-Mountain Telephone Co. I spent 37 years working at the
only job I ever had. In 1962, I married a wonderful man and three years later
gave birth to a son. Unfortunately, after 22 years of marriage I lost my
husband. The Lord gave me strength, comfort, and support during that time and
the years that followed. Thirteen years later the Lord gave me another
wonderful husband. We have been married 16 years and live in the Rock Springs
Community. We attend the Glenwood Campus of ISBC and enjoy volunteering in the
Nursery and helping with Vacation Bible School.
I love sports and am a big fan of
Dobyns-Bennett High School and the University of Tennessee. I live my life loving and serving the Lord.
