Let's Not Be Hasty.....

Looking back at this past year, it seems like such a whirlwind. Time flew by! Everyday life can be like a cyclone; things coming at you in every direction, not knowing which way to go next. Emotions start to race, confusion of which direction or what task to do first.. agh. Overwhelming!

In today's reading, Matthew 5:1 "When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him."

The Word really comes to life as we put our situation into that of Jesus. Sometimes 'the crowds' are all of these decisions we have to make, all the tasks we have to do that crowd our brains. How did Jesus handle it? He went away from it and sat down. The reality is, sometimes just stepping away from the things that crowd us in life- just to sit away from things - is what we need.  A time out. Jesus still fulfilled all that He needed to fulfill, just not in that moment.

The book of Matthew goes on to explain everything from personal relationships to giving, finding treasure, anxiety, judging, bearing fruit. These are all very practical applications for our lives today.

Matthew 7:6 "Don't give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw away your pearls before the swine.." If we make hasty decisions, or 'spur of the moment hurry and get it done' decisions, that's what we're doing. We're giving our precious time -as well as God's material blessings- away.

Verse 7 goes on to tell us "Ask, it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you"

Before making a hasty decision, take time, talk to God, seek out what He desires be done and He will show you.
