Holiday Health Tips

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

The Christmas season and celebrations have officially begun.  Staying healthy through the Holidays can be one of the hardest challenges of year.  There are lots of events with food, schedule changes and hurry, stress and more in a bundle for a 4 week period.  My best advice to you is to plan in advance and stay healthy through the Holidays.  You will feel better and be so glad that one month didn't get you off track for the year.  It's a lot easier to stay on track then fall off and try to get back on, reversing some wonderful hard work that you have done all year.

Holiday Health Tips

1. Clean up your family recipes: We just use the rules for clean eating, apply them to our family recipes, and make healthy meals.

2. Chose Healthy for the main course:  Enjoy the meats, veggies, and fruits and skip the breads and sugar loaded drinks.

3.  Plan Ahead to indulge on your favorite dessert on this special day:  Guess what??? I eat dessert (on special occasions only).  Here is what I recommend.  Choose the items that you want to splurge on, and eat healthy the rest of the meal.  If you reward yourself with a piece of your Aunt Gerry's Fudge Pie with vanilla ice cream, let's say, it's not going to reverse the healthy lifestyle that you have all year.

4.  Exercise:  Keep up the workouts through the holidays and even step it up a notch. Be sure you are doing a workout that involves cardio and strength training.  It doesn't have to be hours long, just get moving :D

5.  Enjoy Your Treats Today, But Not the Whole Month Long:  One day of eating what you want is not going to reverse a year of healthy eating; like I said.  However, a whole month long celebration of the season of unhealthy eating will be hard to reverse and will cause weight gain, irritability, and can reverse months of work.  Try to choose wisely what item you will splurge on.

6.  Take the Healthy Dessert:  Most of the time you can choose healthy meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, and cheeses, but the dessert table is full of junk.  When I go to a dinner or event and take a dish, I take a healthy dessert so I can have something and not be eating unhealthy.  There are lots of grain free and sugar free dessert options made with coconut and almond flour and stevia that are wonderful!! My favorite is the almond butter chocolate chip cookies.

Here is a little extra tid bit recipe for you:

Almond and Coconut Flour Snickerdoodles

Ingredients:

1cup blanched, fine ground almond flour
1 cup coconut flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/3 cup coconut oil or organic butter
1 organic egg

1/4 cup Truvia
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon coating:

3-4 tablespoons truvia
3-4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
In a medium sized bowl mix all the cookie ingredients. How easy is that?????
For coating: mix the truvia and cinnamon in a bowl. You may have leftovers..just save them for next time.
Using a rounded tablespoon, scoop out the dough, then gently form into a ball. Roll in the cinnamon mixture. Place the balls of cookie dough on a parchment lined baking sheet, about 3 inches apart. Use a mason jar or glass and flatten the cookies on the sheet. Bake at 350 for about 8-10 minutes. Let cookies cool completely on sheet..they may seem under baked at first, but they will harden as the cool. ENJOY your sugar free, grain free cookies!!
