For the past week, well longer really, I have avoided
TV, not wanting to see or hear all of the political campaign "mumbo jumbo". Last
night, I stayed up late watching the election coverage with my daughter who had
homework to color a map of the US, state by state as to who 'won' each state. The purpose of the activity
was to teach them about the electoral college. It was like watching a movie
with a cliffhanger!
So I have been avoiding TV, avoiding facebook, avoiding conversations with folks with opposing views .... I typically enjoy politics, but boy I am so glad the election is over!
We are so blessed to live in a nation where we are privileged to be able to elect our president and to have freedom of speech so that we can voice our own opinion. Our nation is blessed whether or not our president of choice was elected. Can you imagine living in a third world country where you are disowned, enslaved or even murdered for being a Christian? And you could forget about getting to choose your leader! Regardless of how we voted, the President has been chosen and we have to 'be in subjection' to them.
Romans 13:1-2 NASV "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves."
1 Peter 2:13 "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority"
Different verses from the word of God, all telling us to submit ourselves to government -which is under Gods control - and do it for Him. If we resist then we have opposed what He has told us and we will reap the consequence..
God doesn't say, "Well, if you like who is President or leader then you should".... God is not saying that we have to like it... God is saying we must deal with it and we need to pray for our country.
God is Sovereign, All knowing, Holy, Righteous.. and in control
